Xi Yan Restaurant

There is this fancy restaurant in Craig Road in a shop house. The interior of the restaurant is very zen-like. It seats about five tables the most, a very small place, but the food was not bad. What is really good is that the menu is specially personalised according to number of guests and reservations. One of the dishes is called the "Pregnant Lady Fried Rice", which we all had a good laugh over!

For a normal seven or eight course meal, it was about S$55.00 per head for a table of ten. The dishes include an appetizer of soup, followed by vegetables, meat of beef / duck, spare ribs, fried rice, soft shell crab as well as dumpling soup for dessert. All in all, it was pretty worth it!

Forever Friends
I went to Wah Lok Chinese restaurant for brunch today. The place sells the most delicious "dim sum", especially the "char siew soh"! Crispy, perfect skin and the filling inside is delicious! It serves very creamy almond paste as well. One of the eating places I will highly recommend for a family outing, or to celebrate your parents or grandparents' birthdays!

I went for a Wine Appreciation evening earlier on organised by my company. I got to partake 4 kinds of wine, with finger food like sandwiches, sausages, crackers and cheese. Not only that, I also got to know how to hold a wine glass, how to smell and sip the wine and the difference between the various types of white and red wine. Thank goodness I did not get too tipsy after all the wine tasting!

Four Seasons Durian Cafe

Pondering
I went to this durian cafe last Friday. Initially, I thought it was the durian puff from Four Seasons hotel, but then I realised Four Seasons hotel is not exactly famous for its durians. Rather, Goodwood Park hotel is. In any case, I tried out the cafe and I was not disappointed!

The durians have the best variety of D24s and "Mao Shan Wang" types! Big, juicy, fleshy and lots of seeds! Durians in season are really different from those off season! The only catch is that the durians there are much more expensive as compared to other places, but then you pay for quality. And that is why the place is so popular despite the inaccessibility and price!

Exotic Food

I am never that adventurous when it comes to food. I mean, I eat anything that is good and nice, and I eat almost all kinds. But if one is going to give me rats or spiders or dogs or monkeys I will freak out. The most adventurous I went was when I ate Rabbit Stew in Malta last year.

So last night when I had to eat an escargot, I had to muster up all my courage to eat it. Given a choice, I would not order, but my friend wanted so he ordered a dish. And since he ordered, I could not refuse to eat it. And he was not helping matters by telling me how he mistakenly ate dog meat and monkey's brain!

Still I managed to eat a piece after psyching myself up. But it will be some time before I eat anything exotic again!
